David McCrary - Trumpet
Born In Bremerton
Attended East High School, went to one quarter at Olympic
Junior college, and Joined the Army Band during the vietnam conflict.
Attended the Norfolk military school of music, in
Virginia.
Played in the 21st Army Jazz Band and Marching band,
while stationed at Fort Lewis.
After leaving the military, I attended Olympic Junior
College,and on to Western Wash. University, where I obtained a degree in
Music education.
After graduation, I taught Elementary, Junior high, and
high School for 12 years. During this time, I had the privledge of being
an adjudicator for various jazz festivals in Washington, and also, a guest
Jazz soloist with several high school and college bands.
I've been playing locally for over forty years with such
musicians as Red Kelly, Bill Ramsey, Jack perciful, Chuck Stentz, Bert
Wilson Joe Baque, Ernestine Anderson, Greta Metasa.
I have played in, and have been the leader of, several
Big bands locally, including the Lakefair Jazz band, Big Bands at
Evergreen State College,and as a former Member of the Seattle Seahawks
band.
For the last fourteen years, been the musical arranger
and trumpeter for the Electric Park Jaaz band, Playing most major
Dixieland Jazz festival regionally and locally.
I Recently toured Japan with a Jazz orchestra from
Bellingham, called Bathtup Gin.
I'm one of the original founders of the Greater Olympia
Dixieland Jazz Society, currently acting as vice president. This
organization, sponsors on the fouth of July, for the past ten years, a
jazz festival. We bring bands in from across the nation that play both
dixieland, and swing. The festival is one of the most successful events in
the greater Olympia area, attracting upwards of a thousand people.

Steve Degarmo - Tenor
I'm from Olympia and graduated from Timberline in 1978. I started playing the
Clarinet in the fifth grade, and added the Saxophone in the 7th Grade. In
the ninth grade I was lucky enough to began taking Saxophone lessons with
Northwest Jazz legend Chuck Stentz. I studied with Chuck for four years,
then I went to Central Washington University and studied the Clarinet and
Saxophone with Ray Wheeler. I also took a few Saxophone lessons with Bert
Wilson. I auditioned for and was accepted by the United States Air Force
Band of the Pacific Northwest, where I played in the Concert Band and the
Touch of Blue Jazz Ensemble. Later, I spent two years on the road with the
Glenn Miller Orchestra under the direction of Larry O'Brien.

Barry Caldwell - Trumpet
Barry’s extensive musical career began at the University of Illinois and the
Berklee College of Music in Boston studying with David Hickman, Jeff
Stout, Greg Hopkins, and Mike Metheny. In addition to performing with the
Berklee Jazz/Rock Ensemble and the Michael Gibbs Chrome Waterfall
Orchestra, Barry was busy recording radio and TV commercials in Boston.
After college, he joined the US Air Force Band. Stationed in Europe, Barry
traveled and performed in 20 countries making appearances at both the
Montreux and North Sea Jazz Festivals. Most notably, he has the honor to
have played for Václav Havel, Helmut Kohl, Ronald Reagan, George H.W.
Bush, Bill Clinton, Al Gore, and Pope John Paul II. He has performed with
Wayne Newton, Marilyn McCoo, Myron Floren, Larry Harlow, Clark Terry,
Toots Thielmans, Ingrid Jensen, and the New Blues Brothers. Currently,
Barry plays regularly in Olympia with the Jazz Senators and Native
Blue.

addition to the Senators.

- Beyond music I read mainly non-fiction political intrigue and think they should stop having wars...
