Benny Kee

Benny Kee
- Drums

Benny started playing drums at age five and started his professional career at age eleven when he started work as a theatre drummer for school musicals in the San Francisco Bay Area. With his parents support, Benny moved to Berkeley where he joined the prestigious Berkeley High Jazz Ensemble which he helped to go undefeated in every festival they entered during his tenure from 1987 to 1989; Benny managed to nab the lion's share of "Best drummer" awards at the festivals as well. While in school, he backed-up famous musicians such as Fred Marshall, Joshua Redman, Phil Woods, and Faye Carol.

After graduating, Benny competed for and won the drum chair in the 1989 Monterey Jazz Festival High School All-Star Big Band, and he toured Japan for a series of month-long concerts with the group. Upon returning from Japan, Benny played with Dizzy Gillespie and the All-Star Big Band at the 1989 Monterey Jazz Festival. Benny then auditioned for and won the drum position in the 9 O'clock and 7 O'clock Big Bands at the University of North Texas in Denton, TX. He then moved back to his home in the Northwest and the rest is history.
